
Nitya is an Indian Documentary filmmaker, Animator, and Community leader.
She specializes in documentary filmmaking, music videos, and product commercials. Beyond her creative work, she is dedicated to empowering abuse survivors through art therapy within Stories by Strangers,
a survivor-led community she helped build.
Raised in Noida, she earned her BFA in Film/Animation at the Rhode Island School of Design and later went on to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for her MFA in Film/Animation
Her work has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, New York Times, CNN, SAIC Magazine, and Homegrown Magazine. She received the Best Cinematographer award at the Shawna Shea Festival, three Best Photojournalism awards from the Illinois College Press Association, the Women in Media full scholarship at Met Film School Berlin, and the New Artists Full Scholarship at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her short film How I Survived Death has been showcased at Oscar-qualifying festivals like Flicker’s Rhode Island International Film Festival, as well as at Shawna Shea and Pune Short Film Festival. Her directorial work includes collaboration with the Indian Premier League, Jouska Films, and Vatika Dabur.
She currently resides in Chicago and works internationally
